Public Health
at Iowa
The College of Public Health is an important asset for the state
of Iowa, which faces critical public health concerns due to its
large rural and agricultural population, a growing proportion of
elderly residents, elevated rates of some injuries and illnesses
in rural areas, and health care provider shortages in many communities.
The University of Iowa College of Public Health is committed to
addressing these needs and improving the health of rural communities
through training, research, and practice.
Iowa, like many other states and nations, also faces public health
issues surrounding tobacco use, obesity, nutrition, cancer, birth
defects, occupational and environmental hazards, health care policies,
and bioterrorism preparedness.
To meet these and other public health challenges, the College
of Public Health trains and educates health professionals using
innovative programs and curricula. It offers an array of master
and doctoral degrees, a certificate in public health, on-campus
and distance learning courses, and a full slate of lectures and
seminars. The variety of programs allows students to focus on an
area of interest and prepares them with the skills to meet the
public health challenges of the 21st century.
