Mr. Osterberg
served in the Iowa
General Assembly for 12 years, where he played a major role in passing
much of Iowa's environmental legislation, including the Groundwater
Protection Act and the Energy Efficiency Act. He was chair of the Committee
on Energy and Environmental Protection and also chaired the Committee
on Agriculture, working with OEH faculty to create Iowa's Center for
Agricultural Safety and Health (I-CASH). Since retiring from the legislature,
Professor Osterberg has taught environmental policy in the UI Department
of Geography and Urban and Regional Planning and in the College of Public
Health. He has also been active as an environmental consultant for the
Iowa Department of Natural Resources and in the private sector. On January
1, 2001, David joined the faculty in the Department of Occupational
and Environmental Health as an Associate Professor bringing an incomparable
breadth of expertise to the department. He has master's degrees from
the University of Wisconsin-Madison in economics, water resources management,
and agricultural economics. His wide-ranging experiences as a researcher
and consultant have taken him to Japan and Sweden.
