HMP, College ranked among nation’s top public health graduate programs

The University of Iowa College of Public Health has once again been recognized as one of the nation's top graduate schools in public health by U.S. News and World Report, placing No. 19 among 177 schools and programs in the latest rankings released in March 2019. The college's Department of Health Management and Policy and its Master of Health Administration (MHA) program have extra reason to celebrate, climbing two spots to No. 8 among health care management programs nationwide in the latest report. Published April 23, 2019

Study finds more than 50% of dual-eligibles end up in low-rated SNFs

Older adults who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid are more likely to wind up in low-quality skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), and their education and distance from quality skilled nursing facilities are key reasons why. "More interactions among nursing home leaders from both high-quality and low-quality facilities can help identify ways to improve low-quality facilities in poorer neighborhoods," says lead author Hari Sharma, CPH assistant professor of health management and policy. HMP alumna Adaeze Enekwechi named president of IMPAQ

Health Management and Policy alumna Adaeze Enekwechi (07PhD) has been named president of IMPAQ, the parent organization of three companies: IMPAQ International, a public policy research and analytics firm; Maher & Maher, a learning solutions provider; and ASCEND, a technology and information product company. As president, Enekwechi will oversee all program areas of IMPAQ's companies. Published April 5, 2019

Alumnus Nico Aguilar shares story about Speeko startup

Solon-raised entrepreneur Nico Aguilar (14MHA/MPH) has migrated to a much larger town, now working to develop his fledgling business from an office in downtown Chicago. His full-time energies are focused on Speeko, a technology company that is building an innovative product to help people improve their public speaking skills, using only their smartphone. Published March 15, 2019

Researchers examine link between minimum wage, long-term health

A new study led by George Wehby, CPH professor of health management and policy, will examine whether children's health can be positively affected by an increase in their parents' minimum wage. "The study will link state-level data on the minimum wage to child-level data on development and health outcomes to examine how changes in minimum wage across states and over time have impacted a range of children’s health outcomes," Wehby said.
