Jim Skogsbergh to Receive AHA Distinguished Service Award

WASHINGTON (April 19, 2023) – The American Hospital Association (AHA) will present its highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, to Jim Skogsbergh, co-CEO of Advocate Health, the fifth largest not-for-profit, integrated health system in the U.S. with a presence across the Midwest and Southeast. Skogsbergh will receive the 2023 award during a ceremony on April 24 at the AHA Annual Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C.

The AHA will present the Distinguished Service Award to Skogsbergh in recognition of his long career as a leader on issues of industry transformation and innovation, health care reform and patient safety, and population health and transition to value-based care, along with his abiding commitment to the communities Advocate Health serves.

Skogsbergh led Advocate Aurora Health, the largest health system in Illinois and Wisconsin, since 2018 and previously served as President and CEO of Advocate Health Care since 2002. Under his leadership, Advocate Aurora Health was renowned for its clinical accomplishments, technological innovation, workplace culture and safety excellence. In 2022, Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health combined to form Advocate Health.

Skogsbergh has been actively engaged with the AHA since the early 2000s, including serving as chair of the AHA Board of Trustees in 2016. In 2021, he completed a two-year term as chair of the AHA’s Political Action Committee. Additionally, he served as chair of the AHA Section for Health Care Systems Committee and a member of the Regional Policy Board for Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Skogsbergh’s career in health care administration dates back to 1982, when he started as an administrative resident at Memorial Health System in South Bend, Ind.
