It explains further the types of activities that Active Ottumwa holds in the community to work toward our goal of increasing physical activity of adults in Ottumwa. It shows the many ways that we are evaluating the success of our program. It also briefly explains how Ottumwans can get involved in the program. This document provides numbers related to Active Ottumwa’s successes in the community. It shows how many participants we have had at our activities from August of 2016-August of 2017. The number of physical activity opportunities offered through our program is shown as well as a list of places where people can be active in the Ottumwa community that are all within a mile distance from the downtown Ottumwa area. We have many upcoming projects and plans for Active Ottumwa to keep the program moving forward in 2018.
This brochure explains the roles that our Physical Activity Leaders (PALs) play in the Active Ottumwa program. PALs are volunteers in the community that agree to lead regular physical activity groups in the Ottumwa community. This document gives basic guidelines that we have set for our PALs. It explains the types of activity groups PALs can lead in the community as well as explains the benefits PALs receive by being a part of our program.
This brochure explains the roles of our Active Ottumwa Ambassadors (AOAs). AOAs are volunteers in the community that agree to promote the Active Ottumwa program and its activities. These individuals help to motivate the people around them to participate in our free group activities hosted by PALs. This document explains what is asked of AOAs and what they will receive in return for their efforts to promote Active Ottumwa.
Mall Walking Benefits (PDF)
This brochure briefly explains the benefits of mall walking. It gives a map of the Quincy Place Mall and shows where our Active Ottumwa storefront is located within the mall (shown by a gold star on the map). Further information about the Active Ottumwa mall walking program can be found on the back of the card.
Walking in Work-sites (PDF)
This flyer discusses some ways that walking can be included as part of a working day. If your organization is looking to offer physical activity opportunities for your employees, this document would be a great starting point. It discusses why walking is a great type of activity to focus work-site program energy on and gives some examples of how to promote walking programs. Action steps for starting a wellness program and some additional resources to look at for more helpful tips can be found at the bottom of the back page.
This document is designed to be printed as a bookmark and can be used to mark the place in your favorite book while you take exercise breaks from reading. Quick tips are given that can help people to be more active in their daily lives. The activities presented are fun and provide great examples for where someone can start when beginning to think about being more active.
Active Ottumwa Posters
Active Ottumwa is putting Ottumwa on the map! Our faculty and staff have been invited to prepare and present multiple posters at conferences and meetings explaining the great work that is being done in the Ottumwa community surrounding physical activity and social network building. The Active Ottumwa program is helping to promote the Ottumwa community’s efforts and collaboration with our program to help keep Ottumwa a #cityonthemove!
Monthly Active Ottumwa Newsletters
Every month Active Ottumwa creates a newsletter to update the community and all of our generous volunteers on what our program has done in the previous month. Stay connected to our progress and all the exciting things we have planned in future months by looking at the newsletters below. These letters always recognize a PAL of the month for the great work they do in getting Ottumwa to continue being a City on the Move. Hidden gems of information on how to be more active in our program or in getting the Ottumwa community to be more active can also be found in the newsletters.
