Alumna Michelle Niermann discusses new CEO role

On Jan. 1, Michelle Niermann (94MA) became president and CEO of UnityPoint Health-Cedar Rapids. Niermann said she aims to change the way the health system is reimbursed to provide better health outcomes for patients. "If those payment systems can transform, we think that we can deliver better health care and we think we can actually lower costs," she said.

Alumna Josie Rudolphi named 2019 Rural Health Fellow

Josie Rudolphi (17PhD), an associate research scientist at the National Farm Medicine Center, Marshfield Clinic Research Institute, has been recognized as an emerging health leader with her selection as a 2019 Rural Health Fellow by the National Rural Health Association. She will spend this year advocating for increased availability and accessibility of mental health care in rural areas, specifically for agricultural populations.

Nominations for 2019 Outstanding Alumni Awards due Feb. 28

The University of Iowa College of Public Health is pleased to announce that it is accepting nominations for the 2019 College of Public Health Outstanding Alumni Awards. This award program recognizes outstanding alumni in two categories: first, recent graduates who have completed CPH programs within the past ten years and, second, other alumni for accomplishments throughout their careers. Nominations are due Feb. 28.

Fort Dodge, Cerro Gordo County organizations receive BLN Community Grants

The UI College of Public Health's Business Leadership Network (BLN) has awarded Community Grants to the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health as well as The Fort Dodge Community Foundation and United Way. The funds will be used to provide new bedding for children and to install sensory pathways within five elementary schools. (Multiple Sources)

CPH student Leighton Hill is motivated to make a difference

Starting college can be a daunting experience, but Leighton Hill quickly found a sense of community at the University of Iowa College of Public Health. Now a junior, Hill has emerged as a student leader, successfully balancing classes, work as a Resident Assistant, an internship, and other student organization activities. Along with approximately 50 other students, Hill is a member of the first graduating class of undergraduate public health majors at the UI.
