UI Explorers Seminar: “Linking Pathogen Evolution with Human History”

Drew Kitchen, UI assistant professor of anthropology, will present a seminar on recent work that investigates the connection between pathogen/parasite evolution and the history of their human host populations. The event takes place Thursday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. at the University of Iowa Museum of Natural History, Biosphere Discovery Hub.

Murray named a 2014 AAAS Fellow

Jeffrey Murray, UI professor in the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics and a professor of epidemiology, nursing, dentistry, and biological sciences, has been named a 2014 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science "for distinguished contributions to the fields of genetics and medical genetics, particularly discoveries in cleft lip and palate and early term birth." Murray is a frequent collaborator with College of Public Health researchers.

Research and Innovation Awards call for nominations

Amazing and transformative work is taking place at the University of Iowa across disciplines in the areas of discovery, creativity, entrepreneurship, and leadership development. You have an opportunity to help recognize the individuals responsible for this amazing work by submitting your nominations for faculty, staff and student research, innovation, mentorship, and startup awards. All nomination/application materials must be received by Feb. 6, 2015.

Need some free coffee while studying for finals? How about healthy snacks, a 10-minute massage, or a yoga class? Finals@IMU is offering an array of free study break options for students from Dec. 13-17 at the Iowa Memorial Union.

Staff invited to apply for spring 2015 Professional Development Awards

All regular UI staff members, 50 percent time and greater, are eligible to apply for a Professional Development Award offered by UI Learning and Development. Winners, selected through a drawing, will receive free registration to one fee-required UI Learning and Development workshop. Submit your application by Dec. 29.
