Diane Hall

Director, CDC Office of Rural Health

Dr. Diane Hall is the Director of CDC’s Office of Rural Health, which leads CDC’s work to improve the health and well-being of rural communities by advancing its rural public health strategy and integrating rural health approaches into its programs. The office works with CDC staff and external partners to build the science and evidence base to understand and address rural public health challenges.

Prior to leading CDC’s Office of Rural Health, Dr. Hall served as a senior health scientist in CDC’s Office of the Associate Director for Policy and Strategy and held several positions in CDC’s Division of Violence Prevention and an academic appointment at the University of Pennsylvania.

In 2025, the American Psychological Association (APA) honored Dr. Diane Hall with the prestigious Presidential Citation for her exceptional leadership and dedication to rural public health. Under her leadership, CDC’s Public Health Infrastructure Center honored the Office of Rural Health for Excellence in Partnering for its initiative and effectiveness in developing CDC’s inaugural Rural Public Health Strategic Plan.

Dr. Hall earned her B.A. in psychology from Hollins College (now Hollins University) and earned her MSEd in psychological services as well as her PhD in school, community, and child clinical psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.
