Call for posters: Occupational Health & Safety Student Research Conference

Published on February 22, 2017

2nd Annual Occupational Health and Safety Student Research Conference

Friday, April 21, 2017, 9:00am – 12:00pm, College of Public Health

Guidelines for Poster and Presentation

  • Poster – the display boards are approximately 4’x6’
  • Presentation – the “3-Minute Thesis” format will be used

3-Minute Thesis Format

The 3-Minute Thesis presentation concept is modeled off a competition begun at the University of Queensland, Australia, and is now conducted across the U.S. including the University of Iowa. The simple rules are as follows:

  • One PowerPoint slide is allowed and to be shown throughout the presentation
  • The speaker is allowed, at most, 3 minutes to give the presentation
  • The presentation is meant to be an engaging explanation of the research accomplished, or to be accomplished
  • The presentation should be understandable to a non-specialist audience
  • The presentations will not be judged (so no pressure)

Guidance and suggestions can be found by clicking on the “10. Guide for Students” here: https://www.grad.uiowa.edu/three-minute-thesis-competition-at-the-university-of-iowa. To view examples, videos of past winners of the UI competition can be found at the bottom of that website.
