In June, Barbara Baquero, assistant professor of community and behavioral health, and assistant research scientist Jason Daniel-Ulloa partnered with Al Exito (The Success) to give middle-school Latino students from Ottumwa, Iowa, a glimpse of what awaits them in college.  The day-long program at the UI College of Public Health and the University of Iowa campus was designed to motivate the students to stay in school and plan for their education beyond high school.

“This is part of our community engaged research in Ottumwa,” Baquero says. “We are thinking upstream and we want to support efforts that provide better opportunities for health.”
