Expert to speak on international issues, road safety planning

All students are invited to a presentation by guest speaker Elizabeth Alicandri, director of the Office of Safety Programs,  U.S. Department of Transportation – Federal Highway Administration. Alicandri will discuss international issues and strategic highway safety planning on Thursday, Jan. 29, from 12:30-1:20 p.m. in C217 CPHB.

Alicandri leads a multidisciplinary staff in the development and administration of programs to improve the safe operations of roadways with an emphasis on coordinating with partners and stakeholders – making sure people get home safely. She provides national oversight and leadership in the largest safety program in the U.S., including the annual $2.4 billion Highway Safety Improvement Program.

She has published over 40 technical articles, reports and articles and made over 100 presentations at national and international conferences. She is actively involved in international road safety efforts, including two terms on the World Road Association (PIARC) safety committee and participation on OECD work groups. Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Georgetown University and a Masters in Transportation Engineering from the University of Maryland.
