The College of Public Health is deeply saddened to note the passing of Leon Burmeister, professor emeritus in the Department of Biostatistics, who died peacefully at his home in Iowa City on Oct. 29. The college extends its most sincere condolences to Leon’s family, friends, students, and many collaborators in Iowa and beyond. Leon was an outstanding biostatistician who dedicated his expertise to an extraordinary range of studies.

He retired in August 2011, concluding his distinguished 42-year career at the University of Iowa as a professor of biostatistics and associate dean for research and academic affairs in the College of Public Health.
