Student workshop: Presenting research to the public
Published on February 26, 2015
The Department of Rhetoric, in conjunction with the Graduate Student Success office, presents Plain Talk, a series of workshops designed to help students explain their work to a general, non-specialist audience.
These workshops are designed both to help students prepare for the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition April 13-18, 2015, and to improve their general speaking skills. Benefits to students include:
- Developing a 3MT presentation
- Clearly expressing the central message of their work
- Providing context for their work without overwhelming employers, granting agencies, or the general public
- Preparing an “elevator pitch” or poster session talk
Workshops are designed with specific disciplinary areas in mind. Dates and times are:
Engineering and Physical Sciences: March 3, 11:30 to 1:30, 2520D UCC (event link)
Biological and Applied Health Sciences: March 9, 3:00 to 5:00, 1289 CBRB (event link)
Humanities, Social Science, and Education: March 12, 11:30 to 1:30, 2520D UCC (event link)
