Two members of the University of Iowa’s Injury Prevention Research Center (IPRC) were recently honored with national awards from the Society for the Advancement of Violence and Injury Research (SAVIR) in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the field.

Ann Saba received the SAVIR Excellence in Communication Award, a new award inaugurated in 2026. This honor recognizes a SAVIR member who excels at translating complex scientific ideas into clear, accessible, and impactful messages that engage diverse audiences and promote evidence‑based action. The award highlights exceptional skill in developing and delivering content that informs, engages, and advances violence and injury prevention efforts.

In addition, Cara Hamann was awarded the SAVIR Outstanding Service Award, which acknowledges distinguished service to SAVIR over an extended period. This recognition reflects sustained contributions that strengthen and advance the organization’s mission, including leadership and service roles. Hamann currently serves as co‑chair of SAVIR’s Science, Research, Training, and Infrastructure Committee and has been newly elected to the SAVIR Board of Directors.

These awards were presented at the 2026 SAVIR Annual Meeting, held April 13–15 in Providence, Rhode Island.
