Working at Iowa 2016 survey results show job satisfaction
Published on January 3, 2017
The results from the 2016 Working at Iowa survey are in, and they continue to show high levels of job satisfaction within the College of Public Health. In fact, across all 20 survey questions, the percentage of positive responses was higher in the College of Public Health than the university as a whole, similar to the 2012 and 2014 results.
These data will be used in future surveys as a baseline to assess trends over time and help to create a working environment that supports and nurtures all of our faculty and staff. These results also provide opportunity for the University to celebrate and build upon the strengths identified, as well as create positive change where opportunities for improvement exist.
Highlights from the 2016 College of Public Health survey results include:
- The College of Public Health participation rate was very high – 83.1% overall (90.8% Faculty, 80.5% staff) – and reflects our culture of participation and engagement.
- 97 percent of CPH faculty and staff report that they know what’s expected of them at work.
- 95 percent said their work units have a strong focus on providing excellent service to those with whom they interact.
- 93 percent reported that individuals in their work units are civil and respectful to each another.
Results show more room for improvement in two areas: fair distribution of workloads and effective management of conflict within work units.
- 83 percent (holding steady from 83 percent agreement in 2014) of CPH faculty and staff said work unit conflicts are managed effectively. (UI: 77 percent) Results at CPH show this has been steadily improving since 2006, but the 2016 report continues to highlight it as an area for continuing improvement.
- 78 percent agreed that workloads are distributed fairly. (UI: 74 percent)
