CPH Board of Advisors Student Award

The CPH Board of Advisors Student Award recognizes two College of Public Health students, one graduate and one undergraduate, whose research or practice experience as a student in the college demonstrates commitment to one or more of the College’s Collective Areas of Excellence.  The award recipients will each be presented with $500 and a plaque at the April 16, 2019, Board of Advisors meeting.

Collective Areas of Excellence

  • Community Engagement: Building partnerships to improve and sustain public health.
  • Comparative Effectiveness: Using research to identify the most effective public health approaches.
  • Rural Health: Increasing the quality of life for rural people and communities in Iowa, the US, and the world.

Application Material

Application Requirements:

  • Application Form: A completed application form.  Download a PDF application form.
  • Essay: A brief (300-500 word) essay about a research or practice experience as a College of Public Health student that highlights a practical application of one or more Collective Areas of Excellence.
  • Letter of Support: A letter of support to be completed by someone who can speak on behalf of your research or practice experience.  The letter must be only one page in length.
  • Due: Application due March 26, 2019, by 4 p.m. to Justin Goodchild.

Application Assessment

Applications will be evaluated by a selection committee comprised of members of the CPH Board of Advisors.  Essays will be assessed with regard to 1) overall writing quality, including clarity, conciseness, and organization; 2) synthesis of academic and practical experiences; 3) relevance to one or more Collective Areas of Excellence; and 4) a letter of support.
