CPH faculty member Oluwafemi Adeagbo has been selected to receive a Major Projects award from University of Iowa International Programs. The award will provide up to $12,500 in funding for the project titled, “Unmet need for family planning and barriers to contraceptive use among women living with HIV in Cross River State, Nigeria.”

The study seeks to determine the prevalence of unmet need for family planning methods and identify the barriers hindering effective uptake of modern contraceptive methods among women living with HIV in Cross River State via survey, focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews with women living with HIV and health care providers, such as infectious diseases physicians. Results of this study will provide critical information for the development of interventions to close the unmet need gap among women living with HIV.

Adeagbo, assistant professor of community and behavioral health in the University of Iowa College of Public Health, will serve as principal investigator on the project, along with co-principal investigator Ani Etokidem, professor of community medicine at the University of Calabar, Nigeria. Rima Afifi, professor of community and behavioral health in the University of Iowa College of Public Health, is a project co-investigator.

Major Projects awards are funded through International Programs and the generous support of the Stanley-UI Foundation Support Organization (SUIFSO).
