Become a certified trainer in opioid overdose response with IA-NEXT

Published on September 22, 2025

The Iowa Naloxone Expansion and Training (IA-NEXT) program is a SAMHSA-funded, 5-year grant focused on educating people in Iowa communities about opioid overdose and naloxone administration.

Program organizers are currently recruiting trainers and invite interested students, faculty, and staff to participate.

Individuals participating in this project will be required to attend one training of trainers (ToT) session. Each ToT participant is also asked to then present two opioid overdose/naloxone administration trainings by the conclusion of this SAMHSA grant in September 2028. The two presentations can occur in a variety of settings that the ToT participant coordinates, including presenting to community organizations, businesses, groups, schools, churches, etc. Several ToT participants can coordinate the event and present together if preferred.

The next training of trainers (ToT) session will be held on Saturday, October 11th from 9 AM – 12 noon at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy (180 S. Grand Ave., Iowa City, Room 110AB CPB). This event will walk you through the training materials, teach you about surveys that will need to be collected during trainings, provide you with feedback on teaching, and assess your knowledge surrounding overdose symptoms and naloxone administration. Free CME will be available for attendees of the October 11th event.

If you are interested and can attend the ToT event on October 11th, please complete the this survey by 5:00 PM on September 30th
