Faculty, staff, and students are invited to audition their talents on Monday, April 22 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.; Wednesday, April 24 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.; and Friday, April 26 from 10:30 to noon in room C217.
We ask that acts are no longer than 5 minutes. Walk-in auditions are welcome, but we prefer that you sign-up for a slot in advance. Corresponding with the CPH Talent Show, we are asking individuals to join the College of Public Health in our efforts to donate menstrual hygiene products and diapers to young people and families in the Iowa City Community School District! Donations will be collected leading up to the talent show.
Access to menstrual hygiene products (or lack thereof) continues to impact the lives of people across the United States. Adolescents in the U.S. miss school or go without the period tools they need because tampons and pads remain unaffordable or otherwise unattainable. Furthermore, menstrual hygiene products are labeled as ‘luxury’ items that are taxed in 37 states and are not included in governmental assistance programs like SNAP.
Likewise, diapers are an expensive and necessary product for the health and well-being of infants, yet many people in our own Iowa City community struggle to have access.
From April 29 – May 3, consider bringing any of the items listed below for young people in our community! Donation sites will be located near the main entrance of the CPHB.
Products needed include:
- Regular maxi-pads
- Ultra-thin pads
- Overnight pads
- Pads of all varieties with or without wings
- Pads of all varieties without scent
- Tampons with applicators (plastic or cardboard)
- Tampons without applicators
- Tampons of all sizes (light, regular, ultra)
- Underwear liners
- Menstrual cups
- Diapers (multiple sizes)
- Pull-ups (for toddlers and potty training)
Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program or if you have any questions regarding the talent show, please email iowacphtalentshow@gmail.com.
