June 2 – Teaching Diverse Learners

July 7 – Teaching Digitally: Using Open Educational and Digital Resources Across Disciplines

Reading and Learning Community members meet three times throughout the summer to discuss key issues and important literature in teaching and learning in higher education.  Participants will read journal articles and/or book chapters ahead of each meeting and should come prepared to discuss.   Participants must be able to attend all three sessions.  This is a good opportunity for those that will be on the job market in the next academic year to learn about important trends and literature in teaching and learning.

Improving Your Students’ Critical Thinking Skills

Friday, July 24
Main Library 1140
Workshop 12:30-1:30 with optional work time and discussion from 1:30-2:00

Do your students seem to want step-by-step directions or “recipes” for success instead of thinking for themselves?  In this workshop we will demonstrate and model tactics to get students to solve problems, construct and analyze arguments, and understand the importance of understanding processes not just solutions.  This workshop will help you feel comfortable teaching and promoting these important critical thinking skills in the classes you teach.  The workshop will be one hour, followed by optional small group discussion or activity planning time.
