Charlton discusses cancer cluster investigation

Mary Charlton, director and principal investigator of the Iowa Cancer Registry and CPH associate professor of epidemiology, spoke about a cancer cluster investigation that will be taking place in Hudson Community School District located south of Cedar Falls and Waterloo. The Iowa Cancer Registry was contacted after 12 teachers in the district were diagnosed with breast cancer within the past eight or nine years.

Charlton also was part of an expert panel that discussed the progress of the White House’s “cancer moonshot” goal to cut the cancer death rate by at least 50% in the next 25 years and the challenges to overcome in diagnosing and treating all Americans impacted by the disease.
