CPH plans relocations

Published on June 20, 2019

Planning is currently underway for the relocation of several College of Public Health programs. The moves are in response to decisions made by Central Administration and in support of our strategic goal of providing state-of-the-art research facilities with adjacency to the College of Public Health Building (CPHB).

Due to significant backlog of deferred maintenance, Central Administration has decided to vacate Westlawn and to relocate current occupants to other space on campus. In response, our college has been exploring options to accommodate groups within CPHB. Space has also been identified in the Pharmacy Building (PHAR) that will become available when the College of Pharmacy moves into their new building over the next several months.

In addition, in support of Central Administration’s long-term goal of making the University Capitol Centre (UCC) a more student-centric space, the college has been asked to move the Clinical Trials Statistical Data Management Center (CTSDMC) from its current location in UCC to CPHB. In order to facilitate such a move, the UI Informatics Initiative will vacate their current fifth-floor CPHB location. The Informatics space on 5th floor will be reallocated to the college.

We are working with Central Administration to determine the timeline for these moves and will provide additional information when it becomes available.

While we cannot move all collegiate research into CPHB at this time, we will continue to explore opportunities to bring our programs into proximity whenever possible. Such incremental changes help us more fully integrate our education and research missions and foster a culture that maximizes productivity and collaboration. Having research facilities adjacent to classrooms and faculty academic offices decreases travel time for our faculty, increases opportunities for shared knowledge and interdisciplinary collaboration, and enhances engagement in collegiate activities.
