CPH students awarded scholarships for study abroad

Three College of Public Health students have been awarded scholarships to study or intern abroad during 2024-25.

The Dr. Ken Magid Scholarship, a fund that was established in 2022 by the late Linda Baker (BA English ‘68) in memory of her former mentor, author and child behaviorist Dr. Kenneth Magid, was awarded to:

Ela Gilson, a second-year student majoring in public health with a certificate in entrepreneurial management from Altoona, Iowa. Gilson is completing an IES internship abroad in Dublin, Ireland.

Mytika Mayberry, a third-year public health major on the pre-medicine track from Des Moines, Iowa. Mayberry is currently interning in Kisumu, Kenya on the SIT Kenya Internship Public Health in the Tropics program.

The Joel D. and Sandra Barkan Scholarship, awarded to students who study abroad in various non-Western European geographical areas, was awarded to:

Shahd Ibrahim, a junior majoring in public health with a minor in Arabic studies, studied abroad in fall 2024 through the SIT Jordan: Refugees, Health, and Humanitarian Action program.
