Documentary film explores Bhopal industrial disaster

image of Bhopal posterThe Association for India’s Development (AID) – Iowa chapter and the UI College of Public Health are sponsoring a free screening of the documentary film “Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain” on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 5:30 p.m. The screening will take place in the Callaghan Auditorium (N110) in the College of Public Health Building. A panel discussion focusing on current conditions in Bhopal, India will follow the film.

Starring Martin Sheen, Mischa Barton, and Kal Penn, this feature-length documentary “exposes the shocking events that led to the biggest man made industrial disaster in history,” the 1984 gas leak at a Union Carbide Corporation facility in Bhopal, which left thousands dead and many more with chronic and disabling illnesses.
