Student workshop: How to construct a journal article

Published on November 4, 2015

All CPH students are invited to attend a workshop on writing a journal article that will be held Friday, Nov. 13,  from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in S025A CPHB.

Led by Patrick O’Shaughnessy, professor of occupational and environmental health, this workshop will not focus on grammar and writing, but will instead concentrate on how a journal article is “constructed.” Some of the questions to be answered will be:

  • What should be emphasized (and where) when writing the 6 major areas of journal article?
  • How is the cited literature best managed?
  • How is the Discussion section related to the study objectives?

Some tips on organizing the effort (and making time for it), as well as some do’s and don’ts will also be discussed.

This example article will be used as the basis of the workshop. If you plan to attend, it would be helpful to read the article prior to the workshop. The workshop will involve information exchange as well as time to examine the article for the way it includes information.  Please bring a copy with you.

The room holds 25 students, so first-come, first-served. However, Dr. O’Shaughnessy plans to hold this workshop annually, so it will be most useful to those who are nearing/in the writing process this year.
