Published on February 15, 2023

The Barbara and Richard Csomay Center of Gerontological Excellence within the University of Iowa College of Nursing seeks collaborative, 18-month JD and Jill Thoreson Optimal Aging Initiative Fund community-engaged proposals with awards up to $50k to assist in creating and solidifying community research and scholarship partnerships related to older adults and aging within Iowa. The goal is to enable and sustain
community engaged research and scholarship partnerships that reciprocally benefit the University and Iowa older adults.

Generous funding provided by J.D. (69MD) and Jill Thoreson (67BA, 69MA) launched the Thoreson Initiative for Optimal Aging within the Csomay Center in fall of 2022. As part of this initiative, you now have an opportunity to advance healthy aging research, education, initiatives, and innovations in the state of Iowa.

The J.D. and Jill Thoreson Optimal Aging Community Engagement Fund is seeking individuals focused on helping older Iowans through advancing discovery and adoption of age-friendly practices that promote self-care or support for the caregiver, and create community-engaged partnerships. Partnerships with community, regional, or state-wide initiatives or community organizations are welcome.
