Join the advance care planning conversation on Oct. 4

Honoring Your Wishes, an advance care planning initiative lead by Iowa City Hospice, is hosting two events on Oct. 4, 2016.
Conference for Health Care Professionals
The first, a professional conference called “Honoring Health Care Preferences through Caring Conversations,” will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts, 1301 5th St., Coralville, Iowa.
Dr. Angelo E. Volandes, a physician and noted expert on Advance Care Planning, will be the keynote speaker. A faculty member in the General Medicine Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Volandes leads a group of internationally-recognized researchers who create and study video decision aids to empower patients and families to make informed decisions at the end of life. This conference will highlight best practice methods and clinical benefits of Advance Care Planning.
Cost: $25 for Allied Health Professionals, Health Educators, Public Health, and Students; $50 for Physicians. CEUs and CMEs provided.

Free Community Program
The second event is a part of the Iowa City Book Festival. Community members are invited to join Dr. Angelo E. Volandes as he discusses his book, “The Conversation: A Revolutionary Plan for End-of Life Care,” on Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.
