The University of Iowa College of Public Health would like to invite you to our Public Health Professional Networking Event. This will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 3:00-5:00 pm CST. If you currently work in public health or public health-adjacent fields or are interested in connecting virtually with public health students (graduate and undergraduate), this will be a great (and free!) event for you to attend! We are utilizing the Handshake platform to execute this virtual event. Handshake supports 1:1 video chats and large-group video sessions.
Employers are encouraged to attend even if they do not currently have job or internship openings. This event is intended to allow you to get to know our students and their qualifications for educational purposes and potential future hiring needs. If you anticipate future hiring needs, this event will allow you to become acquainted with skills and training our graduating students.
The goals of this event are to:
- Explore public health career opportunities and gain an understanding of professional development in their field of interest
- Determine career goals and focus on in-demand skill development
- Locate potential employment and internship opportunities
If you can attend, please click the registration link below. Practitioners are not required to be available for the full 2 hours event and you will set your own schedule in Handshake when they register. The deadline for practitioners to register is October 7, 2021.
How to Create an Account on Handshake
All practitioners, employers, and alumni who would like to participate in this networking event to engage with public health students are required to log in through an EMPLOYER type account on Handshake. If you do not currently have one, you can create an EMPLOYER login here.
When you create this account, you will need to define your organization.
- If your organization is already listed on Handshake, you will need to select the organization name when prompted and affiliate your login with that organization.
- If your organization is not already listed on Handshake, you will have the opportunity to enter your organization’s information. Please be sure to include a brief summary of what your location does so students can read about what type of work you are involved with.
Once your employer login has been created, you can register to attend the networking event at this link.
When you register, you will be asked to provide some brief information about your organization and how hiring is generally conducted at your organization. Please answer these to the best of your ability. We understand that not everyone is involved in the hiring process and you may not know that answers in some cases. After you complete the registration form, your request to register will be sent to the College of Public Health for approval.
Once we receive and approve your registration, you will receive a confirmation email through Handshake, which will prompt you to log in to Handshake again to set up your networking schedule. Employers and practitioners have the ability to set up 1-on-1 meetings and small group sessions that students can sign up for during the 2 hours of the networking session. It is up to you whether you will be available to students for the full 2 hours and in what capacity.
We encourage practitioners to register prior to Monday, Sept. 13 when student registration for this event opens. The final deadline for practitioners and employers to register to attend is Thursday October 7th.
The College of Public Health will be in touch with all registered practitioners in the week prior to the event with event log in information, technical FAQs, suggested talking points, and other need to know items.
