Student Caitlin Smith presents poster at genetics conference

Caitlin Smith, a PhD student in epidemiology, recently presented a poster at the American Society of Human Genetics conference. Her poster depicts a study for genetic markers associated with type II diabetes and carnitine levels in neonates. Carnitine is an amino acid that plays a critical role in energy production)The study compared what is known with adults who have type II diabetes, and showed that similar markers and associations hold true in newborns.
