Study finds more than 50% of dual-eligibles end up in low-rated SNFs

Older adults who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid are more likely to wind up in low-quality skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), and their education and distance from quality skilled nursing facilities are key reasons why. “More interactions among nursing home leaders from both high-quality and low-quality facilities can help identify ways to improve low-quality facilities in poorer neighborhoods,” says lead author Hari Sharma, CPH assistant professor of health management and policy.
