Published on January 17, 2019

Thank you to all who responded to the Working at Iowa survey. This biennial survey is a critical tool that helps guide our efforts to create a positive and productive work culture, contributes to understanding our strengths, and identifies opportunities for improvement. Your willingness to share your perspectives is greatly appreciated.

A few items of college-wide importance from the survey include:

  • The College of Public Health participation rate was high – 78.4% overall (81.4% faculty, 77.4% staff; compared to 60% UI) – and reflects our culture of participation and engagement.
  • 98% of CPH faculty and staff report that they know what is expected of them at work.
  • 97% understand how their job fits the overall mission of the University.
  • 96% said their work units have a strong focus on providing excellent service to those with whom they interact.
  • 96% stated their supervisor treats them with respect.
  • 95% reported that individuals in their work units are civil and respectful to each other.

Dean Parker shared complete survey results with DEOs and governance representatives within the college. In addition, departments within the college will share individual departmental survey results with faculty and staff. This survey is just one part of an ongoing process of continuous improvement that we strive for.

A special acknowledgement and appreciation goes to Jake Oleson, Jacob Clark, and the team in the CPH Center for Public Health Statistics.  Their leadership in the design and production of the survey reports have been extremely valuable to the success of the Working at Iowa initiative. And, again, many thanks to all of you for your participation and for the invaluable contributions you make every day to strengthen our college and University community.
