Center Affiliations
Department of Biostatistics faculty provide leadership for several research centers.
Clinical Trials and Statistical Data Management Center
The Clinical Trials and Statistical Data Management Center is a team of highly skilled and experienced biostatisticians, project coordinators, database developers, data managers, regulatory staff, and administrators committed to providing high quality infrastructure and support for multicenter clinical trials. The CTSDMC funding totals approximately $7 million per year, supporting more than 40 full-time staff.
Institute for Public Health Practice, Research and Policy
The Institute for Public Health Practice, Research and Policy collects, analyze, and disseminates public health data in relation to the research, teaching, and service missions of the College of Public Health. Among other things, the center focuses on developing collaborative relationships in the area of public health statistics.
Biostatistics Consulting Center
Faculty and student consultants from the Biostatistics Consulting Center work with investigators during all phases of research: proposal development, study design, data form or questionnaire development, data entry, data management, statistical analysis, and report preparation. Collaborations range from brief consultations to long-term interdisciplinary research endeavors.
Biostatistics Core of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center
The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer focused on advancing cancer research that impacts the ability to prevent, detect, and treat patients with cancer. Biostatistics Core faculty and staff are actively engaged in the mission of the HCCC through study design and development; protocol review and study monitoring; research data management; statistical analysis and programming; analysis reporting and publication; methodological development; and mentoring, formal training, and professional development.
Other Centers
Department of Biostatistics faculty are also actively involved in the Injury Prevention Research Center, the Great Plains Center for Agricultural Health, the Veteran’s Administration Center of Innovation, the Iowa Cochlear Implant Clinical Research Center, the Environmental Health Sciences Research Center, the Strategically Focused Hypertension Research Center, and the Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Specialized Research Center, as well as in various research networks such as the e-Health Network and the MInD-Healthcare Network.
Alumni Positions
UI Department of Biostatistics alumni have received positions in academia, pharmaceutical industries, biomedical research institutes, government agencies, and major corporations outside of the health sciences.
