Emma Herbach, who completed her PhD in epidemiology at the University of Iowa in 2022, recently received the prestigious Tyroler Student Prize Paper Award from the Society for Epidemiologic Research. The award recognizes the best submitted paper by a student in a doctoral program with a concentration in epidemiology. The Tyroler Award is named for Herman Alfred (Al) Tyroler, a renowned cardiovascular disease epidemiologist.

Herbach’s award-winning paper, “Guideline-Concordant Breast Cancer Care by Patient Race-Ethnicity and Facility- and Area-Level Characteristics: A SEER-Medicare Study,” was written for her dissertation research.

Herbach is currently an assistant scientist at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and postdoctoral scholar in the Cancer Control Training in Disparities and Equity program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, in Miami, Florida.
