CPH student Amir Ghanbari receives $20K grant to study adolescent bicycling injuries

University of Iowa student Amir Ghanbari has been named the recipient of the 2023 H. Clay Gabler Scholar’s Program Award from the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM).

The award includes $20,000 to support his research proposal to assess the burden of hospitalization for adolescent bicycling injuries in the U.S. Ghanbari is a PhD candidate in the Department of Epidemiology and intends to use the research as part of his doctoral dissertation.

According to AAAM’s website, the H. Clay Gabler Scholar’s Program Award aims to encourage original research on topics of interest to the AAAM, foster the next generation of automotive/transportation safety researchers, and encourage the participation of AAAM members in the active mentorship of young researchers in the field of traffic safety. The Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine is a global, multi-disciplinary professional organization dedicated to saving lives and eliminating road traffic injuries through scientific research, authoritative educational programs, and public policy recommendations.
