Guest speaker to talk about community-based participatory research

The University of Iowa Office of Community Engagement is holding an Engagement Summit on Tuesday, April 9. Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is a co-sponsor for the event.

Monica Ramirez-Andreotta, PhD, from the University of Arizona will give an evening keynote and participate in several other sessions throughout the day. Monica uses community-based participatory research methods and develops and implements programs with community health workers and communities in the areas of pollution prevention, climate change, environmental sustainability and resiliency/resistance, and monitoring.

In addition to the sessions that will take place on the east side of campus, Monica will also be offering two sessions at the College of Public Health.  

  • Graduate Student Meet and Greet From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Monica will be available to meet with graduate students and trainees in S302 CPHB (conference room inside of Occupational and Environmental Health).
  • “Participatory Research and Design for Action” workshop From 3 to 4 p.m., Monica will also offer a workshop geared towards researchers, faculty, staff, and trainees who are interested in community engagement and community-based participatory research. The workshop will be held in S302 CPHB.
