Iowa’s Center for Agricultural Health and Safety (I-CASH) has notified ten Iowa youth organizations that they will be receiving grants to carry out the agricultural health and safety projects they submitted applications for earlier this year.

The organizations that received grants are AC/GC FFA (School Garden), Central Community FFA (Sun Protection), Clarke County Extension and Outreach (Chemical Safety), Floyd County Extension and Outreach partnering with Charles City FFA (Mental Health and Farm Safety), Sioux Central FFA (Respiratory Health and Hearing), South Hardin FFA (Equipment and Farm Safety), Southwest Valley FFA (Roadway Safety), South Winneshiek FFA (Fatigue and Farm Safety), Washington County 4-H (Fatigue, Fire, and Farm Safety), and Wayne FFA (Fire and Farm Safety). Read more about the projects here.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of I-CASH funding youth-led projects in farm safety and health across the state. During that time, over 200 projects have been conducted, initiated by youth in their own local communities. The projects funded this year showcase the diversity of safety issues youth groups choose to focus on, and audiences include a wide variety as well–tired farmers during harvest, excited elementary students, youth preparing for their first job on the farm, fairgoers, and more.

“It is so much more effective for local people to be able to address issues that are important in their own communities,” says Brandi Janssen, director of I-CASH. “Our aim is to provide resources and technical assistance to help youth make a difference in keeping their families and neighbors safe and healthy. We are proud of our young people–the work they do and the impact they have.”
