MHA students AnnaVay Ellingworth, Bonnie Gao, Adriana Kotchkoski, Alana Monson, Rasika Mukkamala, Madisen Pautvein, and Logan Schmidt have been working with faculty advisor Joe Tye on a white paper about The DAISY Foundation since early September. The project began with brainstorming sessions, where students provided insight on who may be the best people to interview for this project. In late December and January, each student interviewed two to three influential leaders, including the co-founders of The DAISY Foundation Mark and Bonnie Barnes, Chief Nursing Officers (CNOs) from across the country, and staff members at The DAISY Foundation. Utilizing these interviews, these students are currently in the process of developing and revising a white paper.

Students have noted that their interview experiences have helped them learn more about hospital culture, retention, and recruitment. They also note that they have been able to connect with influential and strong leaders in the health care industry, which has increased their awareness of the importance of recognition in a hospital system. This team has developed a better understanding of the impact of meaningful recognition and the central role that nursing plays in health care.

Overall, students note that this project has sparked an interest in recruitment and retention practices and has made them more comfortable conversing with high-level administrators. Additionally, they note that this project has given them the opportunity to practice interview skills as well as project management and working on a multi-disciplinary team. This team is grateful to alumnus Joe Tye (76MHA) for his assistance throughout the project.
