Extracurricular Learning Opportunities

MPH in Policy students at the University of Iowa have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of extra—curricular activities to expand their knowledge of health policy. Students may attend conferences, guest speaking engagements, and seminars. In addition to the exposure to timely health policy related topics and ideas, students develop important networking skills that may aid in placement post-graduation.

American Public Health Association Annual Meeting

APHA’s Annual Meeting and Expo brings together more than 12,000 public health professionals from across the U.S. and around the world to network, educate and share experiences. The event involves those at the global and national levels, including past surgeons general and heads of health organizations around the world, professionals at the state and tribal levels including leaders from state and local health departments, and those in the education of the next leaders in public health, including professors and deans from the leading public health schools and programs.

Healthcare Executive Symposium

The University of Iowa Department of Health Management and Policy annually hosts a Healthcare Executive Symposium to bring together leaders in the healthcare field to discuss relevant issues. Past featured speakers have included Paul Keckley, PhD, Executive Director of the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions in Washington, D.C., Anna Fallierias, Program Leader of Health Care Initiatives and Policy at General Electric, and Richard Umdenstock, President and CEO, American Hospital Association.
