Kaskie comments on increasing cannabis use by older adults

More than one in five people age 50 or older have used cannabis at least once in the past year, a new survey reveals. Brian Kaskie, professor of health management and policy, who studies older people’s cannabis use, says that amid cannabis legalization, “compounded with the aches and pains that come with age, [older Americans] may be responsive to that and using it more.” (Yahoo Life) Published September 13, 2024

Report shows that natural-cause deaths have increased more in rural areas than urban areas

Whitney Zahnd, assistant professor of health management and policy, recently discussed a new report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture showing that the natural-cause death rate for those 25-54 years old is 43 percent higher in rural than urban areas. Arora studies effects of paid family and sick leave policies on family caregivers

A recent study from the University of Iowa College of Public Health explores the effects of Paid Family Leave (PFL) and Paid Sick Leave (PSL) policies on family caregivers providing personal care to older parents.
