Undergraduate Institution/Degree: University of Iowa, Interdepartmental Health Sciences, Global Health
Fellowship Organization/Location: Trinity Regional Health System, UnityPoint Health, Bettendorf, IA

Trinity is a four hospital health system with hospitals in Iowa and Illinois. Operating facilities in two states, especially during health care reform, poses many unique challenges that have made my MPH degree in Health Policy particularly useful. The health insurance exchanges and Medicaid expansion are being handled differently in both states, and the political nature of each state could not be more different. Health care policy has become the primary topic of conversation in almost all meetings due to our unique and highly political operating environment. Classes such as Medicare & Medicaid and Health Policy taught me skills I use daily to keep up with evolving state and federal political landscapes as we strive to tailor our services to place a greater emphasis on care coordination.

Undergraduate Institution/Degree: The University of South Dakota, Biology
Fellowship Organization/Location: TriStar Summit Medical Center, Hermitage, TN

TriStar Summit is a 188 bed community hospital located in Hermitage, TN and is one of seven HCA hospitals in the Nashville metropolitan area.  My role as Administrative Resident mainly focuses on the daily operations of our facility.  I work directly with our Chief Operating Officer on a wide range of projects and daily tasks.  My major ongoing project has been the implementation of an inpatient rehab unit.  The process required Certificate of Need (CON) approval, during which I actively participated in strategy discussions and developed the presentation and supporting materials for our successful state hearing.  My MPH in Policy degree has been instrumental in understanding the political process surrounding healthcare delivery.  It has provided me with a unique skillset applicable to healthcare delivery, especially in the face of healthcare reform.
