2011 Outstanding Alumni Award Recipients

Nick Striegel received an MPH from The University of Iowa in May 2010 and is currently serving as assistant state veterinarian in Lakewood, Colo. Striegel also holds a BS from North Dakota State University in science and mathematics, a DVM from Iowa State University, and a Master of Divinity degree from Wartburg Theological Seminary. In his current position, Striegel oversees the animal emergency management activities and emergency response programs of the Animal Industry Division of the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) and works with various livestock health and disease control programs, CDA’s response to animal disease outbreaks, animal import, and food safety concerns. He has received numerous awards for his work including the 2010 READY Colorado “Celebrating People in Action Award” and a 2009 Excellence in Teamwork Award from the National Association of Extension Agents. Striegel is also active as a community volunteer and has served on his local school board, Habitat for Humanity, and state and local Veterinarian Medical Associations.

Steve Corbeil received an MA in Hospital and Health Administration from The University of Iowa in 1984 and is the president of Midwest Health System (MHS) in Kansas City, Mo. MHS is the largest integrated health care system and the largest private employer in metropolitan Kansas City, comprised of 10 hospitals, 5 outpatient surgery centers, and a 250-physician multispecialty group practice representing $1.2 billion in net revenue. Corbeil has held senior management positions with Tenet Healthcare in St. Louis and the Hospital Corporation of America in Dallas. He is a highly respected administrator who has successfully managed multiple health care organizations across numerous cities and states. Corbeil is also an active community member and has served on many boards and service organizations, including the American Heart Association in Dallas, Chambers of Commerce in Dallas and Kansas City, and the United Way in Kansas City. He is also a member of the University of Iowa Foundation’s President’s Club and has been active in the UI College of Public Health’s Campaign Committee.
