2013 Outstanding Alumni Award Recipients

Rebecca Arnold received an MPH in Community and Behavioral Health from the University of Iowa in 2010 and is currently serving as a Senior Program Officer/Health Advisor at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in the Center for Communication Programs. In that role, she advises the Bureau of Health and Education within the Bangladesh Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, focusing on behavior change communication and knowledge management. She previously served as a consultant for CARE (Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere), an international humanitarian non-governmental agency fighting global poverty. She has put her concern and compassion for the health and well-being for all populations to work on the global stage and is also a generous supporter and advisor to current College of Public Health students with an interest in global health.

Michelle Niermann earned her MA in Hospital and Health Administration in 1994 and has served as the VP of Operations for St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, since 2008. From 2004 to 2008, she was the Vice President of Operational Effectiveness at St. Luke’s. She is a highly respected leader in the health care field as has been recognized with several awards, including the Iowa Hospital Association’s Young Executive Achievement Award in 2007 and the ACHE (American College of Healthcare Executives) Early Career Healthcare Executive for Iowa in 2006.  She also serves on the college’s Health Management and Policy Alumni Advisory Board and has been an advocate for College of Public Health throughout the state, the Iowa Health System, and the local ACHE chapter. In addition, she established an exclusive relationship between the college and St. Luke’s to train future health care executives, and has personally mentored several CPH students and played an important role in their professional development.
