College of Public Health Distinctions

As one of the nation’s top schools of public health, the University of Iowa has several notable distinctions:

  • U.S. News and World Report ranks the CPH among the top 10 publicly supported schools of public health, and our Department of Health Management and Policy is among the top 10 health care management programs in publicly supported universities.
  • The college is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and is Iowa’s only accredited school of public health.
  • The College of Public Health Building has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification, the highest standard for sustainable design.
  • CPH faculty includes three elected members of the Institute of Medicine, as well as Fellows of the Academy of Toxicological Sciences, American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Healthcare Executives, American Psychological Association, American Statistical Association, and Society of Behavioral Medicine.
  • The college’s Undergrad to Grad combined degree program allows incoming undergraduates in specified programs to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years.
  • The CPH offers a world-class education with a personal touch, including small class sizes, a low student-faculty ratio (4:1), and organized student activities.
  • The CPH offers academic excellence at an affordable price. A variety of financial assistance, in the form of fellowships, scholarships, traineeships, and teaching and research assistantships, is available.
  • Three Collective Areas of Excellence —Rural Health, Comparative Effectiveness Research, and Community Engagement—inform collegiate growth and innovation in research, academics, and outreach.
  • The University of Iowa is listed as a “Best Buy” in the 2023 Fiske Guide to Colleges — one of only 10 universities from the United States on the list.
