MHA Site Visits

Second-year MHA students had the opportunity to visit more organizations and care facilities that support the full continuum of patient care, including the Eastern Iowa Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa that provides both pediatric and adult medical services and dental services. The center serves all patients regardless of their ability to pay for care. The students also had the opportunity to visit a long-term care center, Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids, a residential living facility that supports Iowans as they age.

First-year MHA students had the opportunity to visit UnityPoint Health – Iowa Methodist Medical Center and Iowa Hospital Association while in Des Moines. Each location offered a different look into what a future in healthcare administration could look like! A highlight of the day was the helicopter tour at UPH.

While in Chicago for the ACHE/CHEF fellowship event, our second-year MHA students had some incredible opportunities to visit with hospital leaders, alumni, and fellows in the area. We’re so grateful to our hosts at Northwestern Medicine, the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, and Endeavor Health.

Second-year MHA students visited UPH – St. Luke’s in Cedar Rapids to tour their inpatient rehabilitation and hospice units in February. This tour allowed the students to see these two fundamental areas of inpatient care in full operation and allowed them to ask questions regarding logistics and administration.

HMP students had the opportunity to participate in a dress rehearsal prior to the opening of the new UIHC care facility in North Liberty. The students played various roles to assist hospital staff and providers in gaining a sense for the full patient experience prior to the facility opening in late April 2025.

The final site visit for the year occurred in late April when first-year MHA students had the opportunity for a comprehensive tour of a critical access hospital in rural Iowa. The students spent the day learning about the differences in patient needs compared to more urban sites and had an opportunity to tour the adjacent long-term care facility to experience continuing care for aging patient populations. Our many thanks to Adam Scherling (12MHA) for hosting us!
