Veterinary students attending Iowa State University have the opportunity to work concurrently toward an MPH degree from the University of Iowa (UI). This program has been developed in response to the critical national need for more veterinary professionals with advanced training related to zoonotic diseases, food safety, emergency preparedness, and public health. It is one of the first programs in the US to enable students to obtain both degrees simultaneously.
Upon graduation, students in this combined program, offered in collaboration with the UI College of Law, will be able to serve either as a public health professional having strong preparation and competency to deal with legal and policy issues or as a lawyer specializing in health care issues in a public health setting.
Offered in conjunction with the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, this program provides graduates with expanded career opportunities and allows professionals to apply the principles of both medicine and public health in their practice.
Offered in conjunction with the UI College of Pharmacy, this program will allow students in the UI College of Pharmacy to receive formal education and training in public health as it relates to pharmacotherapy and health promotion, disease prevention, policy, and medication safety.
