Dr. Snetselaar received her academic degrees from Iowa State University in Food Science and Dietetics, University of Iowa, College of Medicine, in Nutrition, and University of Iowa, College of Education, in Health Sciences Education. She is a Professor and Endowed Chair of Preventive Nutrition Education and Director of the Epidemiology Nutrition Center in the College of Public Health (CPH), the Department of Epidemiology. She also serves as a Professor in the Carver College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism. Positions she has held include Interim Head of the Department of Community and Behavioral Health, Associate Head for Admissions and Curriculum in the CPH Department of Epidemiology, Chair of CPH Faculty Council, President of the University Faculty Senate, and Associate Provost of Community Outreach and Engagement. She is known nationally for her work in randomized dietary intervention multi-site clinical trials with the honors of being on the National Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2020-2025 Scientific Advisory Committee and member of the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine Alcohol Consumption and Health Outcomes Working Group. She has served as Principal or Co-Principal Investigator for seven National Institutes of Health Studies including diet interventions to reduce risk of chronic diseases. Her outreach activities have included work in the state with communities in a majority of the 99 Iowa counties. Her work was honored with the President of the University naming her the 32nd Presidential Lecturer. Her international outreach activities have included Africa, China, the Czech Republic, and Malaysia.
