To be eligible to take the long-term care exam, it is recommended candidates meet the following guidelines:  

1. Completed post-secondary education in a health-related field including but not limited to medicine, nursing degree/nursing diploma, laboratory technology, public health, or biology.  Post-secondary includes public or private universities, colleges, community colleges etc.      
2. Responsibility for the infection prevention and control programs/activities in a long-term care setting.

CBIC recommends, but does not require, one year of full-time infection prevention experience prior to taking the LTC-CIP examination.

Reimbursement will occur twice. The first reimbursement will be for the prep materials. This will occur when the candidate sends prep material receipts and registers for the exam (with proof of registration). The second reimbursement will be for the cost of the exam, which will be reimbursed after the candidate sits for the exam. Candidates must sit for the exam by January 31st, 2025 in order to be eligible for reimbursement.

Receipts will be uploaded to a secure fax/email system. Passing the exam is not a criterion for the reimbursement although this program will only reimburse for one exam attempt. Candidates are required to complete a W-9 to in order to receive payment. The payment will be processed via direct bank deposit or mailed check. 

To be reimbursed you MUST complete the following: 

• Live in Iowa
• Complete eligibility form 
• Complete employment attestation form 
• Complete a W-9  
• Submit all receipts for study materials & exam 
  • ALL materials must have been purchased after March 1, 2024 and before January 31, 2025 in order to be eligible for reimbursement.
